Hawke's Bay Democratic Action Association, nicknamed DAD HB, are asking the public to submit against the Local Government Commissions proposal to merge Hawke's Bay's councils.

DAD are warning Napier residents that the regions democracy is at threat and that people need to get involved now, before it's too late.

If the Commission's proposal were to go ahead all five Hawkes Bay councils would be merged into one body with it's headquarters in Napier.

DAD chairman and former Napier deputy mayor Ian Dick said the merger would take away peoples right to govern their own lives and their own futures.

Mr Dick also warned that larger communities would take over smaller ones and would remove their right to be heard.

DAD is headed by a committee of 15 which includes former Napier deputy mayor Kathie Furlong and current Napier mayor Bill Dalton.

Since DAD was launched last year it's membership has grown to 800 people with a mission to "save the region from losing its voice and it's choice".

Submissions close on March the 7th.
